In the Distance , a Small Shape
Escapril Day Twenty Two
Everyday, she walks with the sun
on dry, barren, dehydrated land
miles and miles, back and forth
she chats with the hot loo, but
She never complains, for she
knows better than complaining
she prays, and prays, to her God
who blesses through the rain
Her head hydrated with water
dripping from the moist clay pot
feet warm, almost burning, yet she
places one foot in front of the other
slowly and with great caution
Everyday, life travels on life, life of
her family balanced on her head
a single misstep may cause
drought for the day, a misstep
may cause the death of a family
Escapril is a poetry challenge where participants attempt to write a poem every day for the month of April (National Poetry Month).
