I have this habit of seeing things
that aren’t even there in the first place
i see hint of trust in strangers
and sense betrayal in friends
mean in kind pained faces
No in Yes shaped mouths
no acceptance in embraces
i see these things as if in a crystal ball
like trains on long forgotten stations
like flowers in dry empty vases
i had been blinded by seeing
all these things not existing
yet still i see them
as if they were there all along

Escapril is a poetry challenge where participants attempt to write a poem every day for the month of April (National Poetry Month).
