Aspiring authors spend a lot of time learning how to write. Medium is filled with articles dispensing advice from both amateurs and those who have achieved the dream.

Not that it’s all bad.

We all need some encouragement — especially pursuing this type of dream. But it is easy to fall into the trap of reading about writing rather than just writing. Although, story crafting is a better way to think about it.

How do you learn story crafting? Reading.

The final product always gives clues to its creation.

Reading widely and towards our interests will inform our craft. That’s how the relationship works.

As we consume, our production will change. The beauty of the process is the fun in pursuing interests. Reading is the best way to better writing.
