Affirming

The life-affirming effect of narratives is powerful; it is what most writers pursue. The messages come at the right times, always the right times, because we as the audience perceive their meaning when our experience has opened our perception.

The situation creates the need.

The Hero’s Journey is the most popular Story type because we are all on journeys one way or another. We are all plagued by doubt and Resistance, so seeing a character that we can identify with succeed provides a reset to our ambition, an extra push we may need.

Life needs affirmation. Through Story, we collectively tell ourselves that there can be a bright side even when our everyday experience tells us otherwise.
