The attention of the reader is paramount. A narrative has reached its pinnacle when emotional engagement is achieved. The connection is beautiful.
Mastery of such skill should be the goal of all storytellers. This is easier to achieve when the audience is younger; children give benefit of the doubt more readily than adults. We have achieved experience and the accompanying cynicism that comes with age. That is why we relish narrative originality. To do so as adults with a group is to be reminded of the wonder we felt as children. Pure enjoyment.
