Inoculation

Habits guide where motivation fails. Seth Godin is the most vocal proponent of blogging every day, and in one of his interviews he says a blog post can be ninety seconds. That takes away the excuse.

A blog post is supposed to be what the author wants it to be. Doing so cultivates voice.

Once that has occurred over a long enough period of time, then we might find ourselves with a great idea that could be expanded upon and written about. We are now extremely prepared to overcome any doubt or sense of dread that comes from publishing ideas publicly. Plus, you can’t stop; it’s like brushing your teeth.

Blogging every day is like martial arts. You drill and you drill and drill until your body has inoculated itself to physical aggression. Then, should you be confronted with violence in your everyday life, the mind will quiet and the body will react in the way it has been conditioned to.

Many want to make money through blogging. Some do. Those that have managed to find their niche are lucky. But if that is not your goal, and you just want to write fiction or essays then blogging every day is an excellent way to inoculate yourself against the doubt and fear that comes to those of us with the audacity to think they have something to say or write that other people would like to hear or read.
