Our Characters
Giving yourself to experience is the greatest gift to your writing. Doing this is, in a sense, getting out of our heads. To be like children again, excited for the moment.
If we are writing a narrative, we create and populate a world. Our characters have hopes and dreams.
When we do this enough, write enough characters, it is simple to forget that we too are characters in our own way.
As authors, we have control.
As human beings, we do not.
This is a painful reality to accept because it demonstrates an inherent vulnerability. But the vulnerability is what we all share.
The vulnerability translated in narrative will connect us with our audience.
We are all just trying to show each other the way.
