The true element of a narrative is scene. Of course character, setting, conflict are essential, but they all come together in scenes.
When beginning to construct a narrative, some writers fall into the trap of writing a glut of character experience without purpose.
Readers do not need to know how a character fit from point A to point B unless it contributes to the narrative as a whole.
Every scene should have a purpose, and that is where an author should focus their attention.
