The Habit’s Otherside

It’s alarming how the mind and habit can get away from you. But that’s the other side of the coin, isn’t it?

We all cultivate good and bad habits.

Bad habits, though, are more difficult to control. There are triggers and other environmental factors, but what it boils down to is that bad habits are easy. Bad habits can quickly become breaks from our good habits.

Consumption has become our default bad habit. We live in a world of distraction and of almost infinite choices.

Production is not as easy. Production requires effort. That effort can be cultivated — a good habit — but it is not easy.

Finding a balance of habit is something to strive for; it is worth it. We cannot close the door to consumption because inspiration can hide there. At the same time, we cannot let it get away from us.

Production takes more effort and less time. Get the mind there first. After that, relax and consume.

You earned it.
