MEAN Belt Exam plus project week kickoff!

MEAN Day 15

Yup, you heard me right. Today we took our third dojo belt exam. Today’s exam was to build a “dashboard” for appointments at a doctors office. Users could login, add appointments, cancel them and search them and some other bells and whistles. One feature I had trouble with, was to not allow patients to cancel an appointment a day before the appointment. Anyway, I did well and now it’s time to move onto projects week.

At 3pm, after finishing the belt exam, we all gathered into the side room to hold “elections” for project week. During project week, we create a clone of a popular web app. The voting process consists of putting a bunch of popular web apps on the board and then voting on them. This weeks theme is social media, so people shouted out names like instagram, tumblr, twitter, Facebook and more. The winner? slack.com. Slack is a super powerful collaboration tool for teams. Like a whatsapp for work and then some. I joined nick and armando’s team, and we were off to ye ping ping room to build out our database design. Slack is super cool and complex, so I’m super pumped about getting to work on it. I’ll be sure to post updates about the project throughout the week. Hope you all have a great weekend. As always, thanks for reading and happy coding!
