What Was the Chandrayaan-2 Mission?

India is a country full of wonders and curiosities. It has always been on top of scientific advancements, having discovered zinc while civilizations were learning to simply communicate. Even now, our country has surpassed many others in various fields. Astronomy, math, science, you name it.

And some time ago, India proved its mettle once again. Chandrayaan-2, a space rover, completed its first year of orbit around the moon.

What was the Chandrayaan-2 mission?

The Chandrayaan-2 mission was a highly complex mission, with a complete set of orbiter, lander and rover, to explore the South Pole of the moon, a feat never accomplished before. The mission also included studying the moon’s exosphere, surface and sub-surface in one mission.

Why did we execute this mission?

The reason we went to the moon is that it is the closest cosmic body to our Earth. The mission was meant to increase our understanding of the moon and to inspire more and more scientists. ISRO confirms that the moon provides one of the best links to the Earth’s early history and that studying it is one mission of utmost importance.

The scientists behind this mission have confirmed that the orbiter will do so for seven years, a brilliant feat for an unmanned mission. The Vikram Lander alighted on the moon an odd one year back, and the rover has been mapping the moon for the same time.

Our country has done a lot in various fields, from the building of the Taj Mahal to the second largest telecom service in the world. We have accomplished a lot, and will continue to do so.
