I arrived in Silicon Valley on June 14, but I’ve the feeling that I’ve been here for more than a month now. Before coming here I didn’t have that many expectations. I knew the program was great, that I would meet amazing people and that I would learn a lot, but I had no idea that it would be like this.
This was, without any doubt, one of the most amazing and most challenging weeks of my life. Everyday, we have class from 9am to 10pm. Classes range from Networks and Computing Overview with Brad Templeton, the first CEO of a dot.com company, to Medicine and Neuroscience with Daniel Kraft, an expert on the use of technology in medicine. Between, we also have time to hear Dan Barry, a 3-times astronaut, talk about Sensations of Spaceflight or hear Marc Andreessen, the best VC in the Valley and the founder of Netscape talk about investment and his experience.
Besides all that, I had to deal with jet lag, being in a complete new environment and meet hundreds of new people. After only a week, I feel I’m a different person already and I can’t wait for the next weeks.
- Elon Musk is BIG everywhere!! He’s clearly the new Steve Jobs and here in the Valley everyone seems to love him.
- 3D Printing is the future. There are infinite ways of applying 3D Printing and over the next years, most industries will be disrupted by this technology.
- Marc Andreessen doesn’t fund companies that expect to make 100 million dollars. It’s not good enough for the risk he is taking.
- Over the next years, the health industry will be completely disrupted. There are already thousands of great projects in this field. One of my favorites is 23 and Me.
- Google is no longer a search engine company. They are investing everywhere and disrupting various industries. Their most recent project is Loon for All. I have the feeling that everyone is somehow working for or with Google. Google is sexy again ;)
- Everyone is really really nice, welcoming and smart. Had the opportunity to meet really amazing people from lots of different places and everyone is open and willing to help you and teach you.
