when moonlight falls,
when skies darken and stars shine through,
when wind calms and temperature drops,
when quiet seeps in,
when unease trickles, settles,
when time speeds up,
when the moment’s almost gone,
when ephemerality isn’t enough,
when forethought looms,
when anticipation stirs,
when thoughts won’t settle,
when images punctuate the mind;

it’s not the sunrise,
it’s not the bright sky ahead,
it’s not the warm glow of the morning,
it’s not the energizing sounds of tomorrow,
it’s not the anxiety calmed,
it’s not a slowing down,
it’s not embracing the moment,
it’s not a wish for permanency,
it’s not the foresight of future time,
it’s not a breath of fresh air, to calm,
it’s not the peace that falls, settles,
it’s not an erasure;

it’s, here, now,
it’s the moment,
it’s the unsettled.
