The Red Boat
a poem inspired by a painting

Two brothers carry their red boat out to sea.
The boat’s shadowed blue trim echoes the ocean with its frosted tips.
A Caribbean sun turns the sand into pearlescent acres of shimmering plains.
Three seagulls joyfully swoop around,
Reveling in the carefree day
As the brothers amble toward the water.
Their shirts and shorts, with variegated patterns, like Dolly’s coat of many colors,
flutter loosely around their charcoal limbs.
The day sings of bliss.
