Welcome back! This week we are going to take a look at my book’s 1st out of 8 takeaways: Fear and Failure.

“The number one thing that gets in the way of doing great things is fear of failure. Fear prevents us from doing the things we want to do, but we know we should do, but we’re afraid of failing…we’re all creative but it’s suppressed by a fear of failure.”

The above quote is by a man named Don Dodge. Don’s a Developer Advocate at Google helping developers create new applications on Google platforms and technologies.

Fear of failure can stem from a number of different places, but the one that is most common is the fear of what other people think. It’s wild to think about how much we allow other people to influence our thoughts, decisions, passions, and actions.

This idea raises an important question. Why do we care so much about what other people think?

→ Everyone wants to fit in, it’s human nature.

Google realized this early on and created a culture that was entirely inclusive and allowed for each and every employee to enter a workplace that cares about psychological safety first.

Psychological safety is one of the most important keys in allowing employees to reach their upmost creative potential because it creates a culture that does two crucial things.

  1. Creates a culture where judgement is absent.
  2. Creates a culture that doesn’t focus solely on its successes.

If you’d like to read more about how to implement a culture of psychological safety into your workplace or if you’d like to understand further about how to stop thinking about failure as a negative → you can order my book here 🚀

Have a fantastic week!
