Keto treats by mail: Keto Delivered Review

I live in a big city (Oakland, CA) and I have great access to healthy grocery options. BUT local stores don’t carry very many “keto” friendly treats.

  • Gluten free? Sure. But that is seldom keto.
  • Sugar free? Yeah. But often full of other crappy ingredients.
  • Paleo friendly? That selection is growing, but still is pretty full of carbs.

I thought I’d jump on the “monthly box service” trend as applied to keto and check out the options. Plus — yaaay! Surprise treats by mail. Who doesn’t love that?

I selected Keto Delivered. The cost is $40 per month.

I selected them because:

  • Good marketing (found them on facebook via a retargeting campaign. Smart.)
  • You get a range of types of treats, including baking and cooking basics.
  • I read a third party review (like this one) online which gave them good reviews.
  • They had a well designed website, nice testimonials, and it was super easy to sign up.

So, I did.

Three weeks later (yesterday) my first box arrived.

It arrived in good condition and brimming with goodies.

  1. Protes Protein Chips (tangy southern bbq and toasted coconut)

This is something I would NEVER have bought on my own. I tried the BBQ flavor and only finished half the bag. It seemed like too many carbs for the lack of yum. The bag has 4 net carbs (7 total). The product uses pea protein and boasts 15 grams per bag. The flavor profile of the seasoning was fine. The “chip” was not so satisfying. Meh.

Verdict: If I am craving a chip-like snack, I’d rather have pork rinds any day. No carbs, lots of protein, and twice as delicious.

2. Variety of nuts (pumpkin seeds and almonds)

Okay. I like to snack on nuts. I’ll tuck these in my travel bag.

Verdict: They seem fine. Nothing special, but nice. (Full disclosure, I have not actually tried the nuts yet. They might be very special nuts. It is possible.)

3. Coffee Blocks (two 1.1 oz packets)

These travel friendly packets have coconut oil, organic clarified butter, instant coffee and egg yolks. You simply add hot water and then you have a cup of nice fatty coffee.

Verdict: I haven’t tried them yet. Waiting to travel.

5. Keto and Co Hot Breakfast

Again, this is something I never would have bought. I’m not really into replicating traditional breakfast foods.

Regardless — I made it and tried it.One serving prepared as directed will give you 3 g protein, 4 net carbs (12 total) and as much fat as you add. I added a little extra butter because I love the taste of butter in my cream of wheat. I didn’t however add any sweetener on top like I used to (brown sugar or maple syrup). Without the sugary topping it was plain porridge.

Verdict: It was okay. If you really miss cream of wheat, you’ll probably like it. It had a nice texture and creamy finish and with my added butter, a nice buttery flavor. I wont make it for breakfast again. But it is mostly coconut flour so maybe I’ll use it to build keto biscuits or something another time.

5. Ground 2 Table Spice Blends (in three .14 oz packets)

The keto link is that these spice blends have no sugar added. They seem to be high quality ingredients.

Verdict: They were not something I needed — but I’ll happily try them. And that’s kinda the point — to try new things on keto.

OVERALL VERDICT:

I’m reasonably happy with my $40 investment in Keto Delivery. I tried new things — which is important when you are on such a narrow diet. It made me think about what I like and why. I’ll keep my subscription for at least a few more months.

DISCLOSURE: I am in NO WAY affiliated with or compensated by Keto Delivery. I’m just a regular fully paying end user.
