OSTs COME ALIVE

One thing I love about Korean dramas is the importance they place on capturing the right emotion. They do this in several ways. One of such ways is the use of OSTs. OSTs (Original soundtracks) are the music pieces that accompany the drama, kind of like the background sound. They give life to the scenes. They tell you when, what and how to feel. They speak and even we barely understand a word, we hear them loudly. They tell us when to cry and when to laugh, to feel afraid, feel joy, feel sorrow, when to feel relieved and when to feel incredible loss. Those OSTs that have you pausing to quickly shazam and when we listen to them later, make us feel all those emotions again. Those are the OSTs I am pleased to bring to you today.

Goblin:

Goblin was an array of heart-breaking beautiful OSTs. The producers of this drama did everything right. Some of the beautiful OSTs include:

  1. Round and round by Heize feat. Han Soo Ji(to let us know something good was coming)

2. Stay with me by Chanyeol and Punch (was cool and still heart piercing)

3. Stuck in love by Kim Kyung hee (lay on the fence playing with our hearts)

4. Beautiful by Crush (had tears streaming down our face rather (un) fashionably)

While you were sleeping

  1. It’s you by Henry Lay (cool, calm, gathered all of our emotions)

Descendants of the sun

  1. You are my everything by Gummy (anthem of this drama, in my opinion, it suited every scene)

Scarlet Heart Ryeo

  1. Say yes by Loco and Punch (was the balm for our repeatedly wounded hearts)

Itaewon class

  1. Start over by Gaho (had us excited and fired up)

Search www

  1. Search by Elaine (was sassy, snazzy, gave absolute girl crush vibes, was a perfect fit for this drama)

Falling for Innocence

  1. Paradise by Davink (was cool, calm, tears streaming down your face kind of song)

Vincenzo

  1. Adrenaline by Aalia (although it was sung in Italian, and I didn’t understand a word, the song was so nice and calm, a stark opposite to the dynamic events that going on in the drama)

Rebel: Thief who stole the people

Rebel is a sageuk. Most of the OSTs were in Pansori or were Pansori- adapted and they were absolutely perfect.

  1. Magic lily by Ahn Ye-eun (prepared us for painful scene(s)

2. If spring comes by Ahn Ye-eun (loaded with excitement)

3. That’s love by Chae Soo bin (romance up ahead)

4. Damdamhi Jeogsigona by Jambinai (extreme pain up ahead)

Prison playbook

  1. OK by Bewhy Prod. by Gray (one of the few rap songs I actually like, gave the entire drama the sass it needed, totally loved it.)

2. Bravo, My Life by Eric Nam (was cool, soothing and was placed in all the right scenes)

School 2013

  1. Reset by Tiger Jk (first OST I ever downloaded, young, energetic, very lovely and had so many high notes)

When you listen to these songs, especially within the drama, you come to agree with the award judges that they indeed needed a category of their own in the drama and movie awards. It is important to note that this list is not exhaustive, there were so many OSTs I wanted to include but then the list would be so long, we would have to call it a playlist. So for now, we would have to make do with this.

Thank you
