I always thought photos did that job. If I wanted to remember something forever, then I would just take a picture believing that I had captured that moment for life. But eventually, I realized that photos just capture a location. They don’t capture the feelings that we experience at that moment.

Once that moment passes and I am back to my routine life, I tend to forget those delicate feelings. The photos often fail to capture the depth of the emotions that we must have experienced.

I love taking pictures and they are fun to look back on. But then there are some pictures that make me wonder — when was this taken?

Documenting these memories in my journal has definitely helped me restore such precious moments.

Some memories are beautiful.. And some rather cute..

At the Chocolate Factory (Sunday — 22nd July’18)

See that little girl in the background? That’s my daughter, Mahi. She was upset about something and she didn’t want to smile for the camera.

This is Mahi after 20 minutes

After few minutes, she was making videos talking about how much fun she had and all the exciting things she had done.

This is what childhood is like.

Living in the moment.

Leaving the past behind and moving on. Forgetting all the grudges and appreciating life the way it is.

Mahi….Always stay the same princess. Don’t allow anything to weigh you down for too long. EVER…

Rishi…. :)

Rishi — Our handsome boy who recently celebrated his 10th birthday. This beautiful kid is changing every single day. I still call him my baby but I know he is growing up now.

Parenting a tween boy is a rather novel experience for me too…

Tween- That’s that’s the word right?

I wouldn’t call it challenging yet. I guess the real challenges haven’t kicked in as of now. But things are different. I can feel that. And I am loving the change.

Of course, I am.

We are having a deeper conversation these days.

Well, some days I have to pick my battles.

The argument stage has begun. And it’s not just whining anymore, it’s a detailed argument with facts and figures.

He loves to get involved in different things around the house. He has become more compassionate.

At the same time, he has become sensitive to certain things.

There is something about last Sunday I want to remember forever. It happened right after we took this picture.

Me and Rishi- That Sunday at the Chocolate Factory.

As he sipped his hot chocolate Rishi said to me, “ Such a beautiful day it is,isn’t it? I am loving it!’

It was not what he said that grabbed my attention, rather the way he spoke. It was so mature. So grown up. :)

Until then I was busy taking pictures, trying to capture all those beautiful moments. But when he said those words…. I stopped.

I put my phone aside and just began staring at him. Thinking to myself, “Why is my baby growing up so fast!!???”

“What!!!” He had caught me staring at him with a wide grin on my face.

“Nothing,” I replied with a smile.

I pulled him closer and said, “You know, when you grow older, you are going to remember these moments. Us sitting here on this beautiful sunny day, sipping hot chocolate, eating pastry.

You, me, daddy and Mahi. Enjoying this gorgeous Sunday morning. That’s what you’ll remember. So just capture this memory in your brain. Forever.”

“My Hot Chocolate is cold!! They should call it a Cold Chocolate.” That was his response to my deep sentimental talk. :)

He is still my sweet innocent kid,” I assured myself as I watched him laughing at the joke he had just cracked.

Lesson # 2

Live in the present. Don’t just capture the visuals but also try taking in the essence of that moment.
