Immigrant

Immigrant: water between two shores

Ebbs and flows languidly

Languages intertwined

Into this play of

Warp and weft

Two types of wisdom

Gained

Two sets of prejudice

Discarded

Two wombs in which I dwelled

Until my embryos collided

Into a more whole

Human.

I am both enchanted by the new

And home sick dreading

I’m both dischanted by the ugly outcome

Of political distress.

I’m both

As close as one can get to being “us”
