Brunch at The Boathouse

in the Central park

“There aren’t many things that New Yorkers loves more than the Sunday brunch.”

So true. In my opinion one of the most sparkling diamonds in Central park is The Boathouse — a century-old landmark restaurant open for brunch every weekend.

Do you remember when Big and Carie fell in the lake after his unsuccessfull try to kiss her? Or the restaurant where Meg Ryan was exchanging gossips with her friends in “When Harry Met Sally”? Yes — that was the Boathouse. Actually dozens of movies have a scene here — just google it.

For many Sunday “morning” means 2pm, but if you want a table here you should show up at about 09:30
If you miss your chance to get a table, there is a nice outside bar right next to the entrance and it is managed also by The Boathouse.

If you come here around 09:30 (first come , first served) most probably you won’t need to wait to be seated and you will take a better table, next to the windows. If you come later you will need to wait up to 40 minutes. Any season is perfect here, but if you are in NYC in the Autumn… then brunch at the Boathouse is a must.

Also if this is your only chance to visit Central park during your stay in the city then you can combine the walk with the other interesting spots around — Strawberry fields, The Dakota, the Minton tiles, the Swedish cottage, the Great lawn. You can tour all of these in less than an hour.

The boats are available for rent from April to November. And it’s really worth the 15 bucks.
Gray day, the entire Midtown Manhattan covered in fog

Final words: I am sure there are better and not so over-priced scrambled eggs in New York than these served at the Boathouse, but if you are in the city for a week and ask me where to go for a brunch I would’t hesitate to answer: Enjoy the atmosphere and the nice view at the Boathouse!
