Since the launch of WallpaperHub.app in August the response from you all has been fantastic, you’ve made the time and effort I’ve put into the site and finding wallpapers completely worth it! So firstly I want to thank you all!

Bing Wallpaper of the Day

When thinking about wallpapers and Microsoft there’s one obvious source to get new images regularly and that’s Bing’s homepage. I’ve thought about manually getting the daily wallpaper and uploading it to the site but doing so would have been quite a lot of effort and prone to be me forgetting. Instead I wanted the process automated. (In my original post announcing WallpaperHub.app I made a big thing about automating as much as possible and that remains true now too.)

For the past few days WallpaperHub.app has been automatically getting the daily Bing wallpaper and adding it to the site. The site is getting the Bing wallpaper from the following markets, and making sure they are unique:

  • US
  • UK
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • France
  • Germany
  • China
  • Japan

These wallpapers appear just like any other wallpaper on the site, the only difference with them is that they are relatively small images and are only offered at 1080p resolution.

You can see the latest Bing wallpapers right on the homepage and there’s a new label and tag to indicate that the wallpaper comes from Bing.

Related Wallpapers

A second addition to the site is that when viewing a single wallpaper you can see related one to it based off of the tag. This should help with finding other wallpapers you might like.

For the Bing Wallpapers there’s a slight difference where it will only show the Wallpapers of the Day

Other improvements and tweaks

There’s also a number of smaller changes I’ve made to the site over the past few months, the list below details all the changes since the initial release:

  • Add an “Expand” action to view a larger version of a wallpaper
  • Added labels to indicate the type of wallpaper: “Official” (a wallpaper Microsoft use), “Original” (an original creation), “Inspired by” (a wallpaper like one Microsoft uses) and “Bing Wallpaper” (a Bing Wallpaper of the Day)
  • Added “new” indicator to any wallpaper that has been uploaded to the site in the past week, especially useful now that wallpapers will be added to the site more frequently
  • Add scroll buttons to allow the carousels to be used with a mouse and keyboard set up and not just a touch screen
  • Swapped “Wallpapers” and “Collections” in the header because it makes more sense for “Wallpapers” to be next after “Home”
  • Bug fixes

I hope you like everything I have added to the site! As ever, please let me know any feedback and ideas you have for WallpaperHub.app.
