When you are trying to make the change to adopt a healthier lifestyle there are many things to consider. It is extremely important to not be overly restrictive with your diet or go on one of those crash diets. Such methods won’t help you change your lifestyle, but will result in unhealthy yo-yo dieting, frustration, and unnecessary strain on the body. For long term changes to your body whether you goal is to build muscle, lose weight or just be fit — it is important to adopt healthy habits such as daily physical activity, eating whole some nutritious meals and drinking plenty of water. Adopting such healthy habits has great overall health benefits but will also help you reach your fitness goal. In this post I want to talk to you about the benefits of increasing your water consumption to 2 litres per day and how to take the first step towards a healthier you. Here are some great benefits you may not have heard of before:

Water Helps You Eat Less

Drinking water is an important part of any weight loss program, because it helps you feel full longer. Often, people mistake thirst and hunger — if you aren’t sure if you want to snack, drinking a glass of cold water will curb your desire to eat.

Water Reduces Bloating and Water Retention

Whether you want to gain muscle and lose weight, it’s impossible to see the results if you’re bloated or retaining water. However, water actually helps flush your system, reducing bloating and retained water.

Drinking Water Improves Your Complexion

Drinking 2 litres of water a day improves skin elasticity and reduces the appearance of blemishes. When you are well hydrated, your skin condition improves tremendously.

Drinking Water Will Increase Your Energy

Carbonated drinks, coffees, juices, and even energy or sports drinks, actually slow you down and make you more sluggish. This is because these types of drinks are loaded with caffeine and sugar, which spikes your energy at first, but leads to a crash later. Plus, these drinks often cause bloating and water retention, because they frequently have a high amount of sodium. Water, on the other hand, flushes your system and helps you avoid the energy spike and subsequent crash.

And there you have it, taking one small step such as increasing your water consumption daily will help you not only improve your health but it will also play a big role whether you are looking to lose weight or build muscle. Check back next week for my post about the importance of daily physical activity.

Have a great week!
