It’s quite easy to over-consume the refined white stuff we all love so much, without even realising you are doing it.

The average adult has a recommended daily intake of 6–9 teaspoons of sugar a day, and you may be going way over that amount.

Here are 5 simple steps you can take to eat less sugar and get closer to your goals!

Don’t drink your calories

Skip the latte and put down the juice! If you find yourself drinking sweetened beverages every day, you may be consuming way too much sugar.

Although fresh fruit juice has its health benefits, consuming too much will cause your weight loss to stall. Switch to water and tea instead.

Don’t eat sugar for breakfast

Cereal contains an average of 24g of sugar per bowl (give or take, depending on your choices). That is almost you entire daily intake in one siting!

Opt for oats and yogurt or other lower sugar options. You’ll start the day off feeling more energised and less hungry too.

Get saucy

You heard me… read the labels on your sauce. So many of us add sauces to our meals without realising the sugar content contained within them. It’s what makes them so deliciously sweet.

In every tablespoon of sauce, you might find you’re consuming more sugar than you need for the whole day.

Brush your teeth

Yes, brushing your teeth after every meal will help to prevent you from eating that sweet treat. How, you ask? The minty flavour prevents you from craving something sweet.

No-one really likes to eat once they’ve brushed their teeth, try it and see how it works to deter you.

Change your recipes

There are so many alternatives to sugar. It really isn’t needed in any recipe at all, as you can substitute for healthier options and have the same result.

Applesauce, bananas, honey and natural syrup will work a treat, and your taste buds will not suffer.
