Dear Mom,

I realize that this will not even begin to cover it. The last 20 years that I have been alive would quite literally be nothing without you. I often find myself not calling you as much as I should, not sharing as much as I should with you but one thing is for sure that I never find myself loving you less. Everyday my love for you grows greater. While I know that we have a relationship that is different than most, I am happy that we have the relationship that we do.

Many people think that there is an overall formula for single-mother-daughter relationships. That you have to work all the time, that I was on my own a lot or even that there were problems with us and I was rebellious because I didn’t have a father to discipline me. But little do people know that you worked your butt off to provide me with a life that we could enjoy together. All of my childhood memories involve you, you were there to pick me up from practice, there at my school concerts, and there for me helping my cut our fish for my 5th grade presentation on the Titanic.

You have allowed me to reach for the stars and everyday I thank god that you are the mother that I was blessed to be the daughter of. Mother’s day is the time that mothers get national recognition for the things that you do everyday. The thing is that a mother’s job is never over, a mother never stops working and creating a better life for their children. I know that our relationship has changed since I have been in college but guess what nothing will ever change the fact that we can sit and watch scary movies until the sun comes up, or the idea that cereal for breakfast is just a good idea sometimes.

I guess what I want to say is, thank you! Thank you for giving me a life that I cherish, thank you for understanding me and my craziness and thank you for raising me to not be afraid of speaking my mind and standing up for what is right. Thank you for the love that you have given me because it has helped me love the world but also see the love within it. The love that you have given me has created such a completeness in my heart that I cannot think of anything I want to do more than repay you for that through helping others just like you do.

Thank you for your love,
