Changing how we think can change our lives.

Do we have a tendency to get stuck in our negative thinking? Things can be going great, then something bad happens, and we are in the dumps. Social psychologist, Alison Ledgerwood, alleges that we can. She used her papers being published as an example. When she is published, she experiences what it’s called the gain. Afterwards, she’s not published she experiences a loss. After that loss, she experiences a gain, but she still can’t get past the loss.

In terms of self, I believe that we can get stuck in negative self-talk about ourselves. Therefore, whenever anything good happens to us, we’re still focused on the bad. Perception is everything. Being conscious of how we perceive something is the way out. Being conscious of perception itself is the way out. And it’s easy to talk about a glass being half empty or half full. But it’s not so easy to put these anecdotes into action.

The truth of the matter is that we must work to see the upside. Vigilant action is required to combat negative thinking. If not taken, we stand the horrible chance of being — yes — stuck. Don’t want that. Below is Alison Ledgerwood’s TEDTalk where she gives great advice on getting unstuck.
