My Sacred Toe

The not so Ancient Saga

Watch it on YouTube here:https://youtu.be/pnHu2oAvZl4

Sometimes my sacred toe tells me things that I am not ready to hear.

But I listen because my toe is sacred, infused with the divine.

It wasn’t always this way.

Once my sacred toe was just a toe,

one of 10 or to be precise -

one of five on my left foot.

Back then I thought very little of my toe.

It was just there — the biggest of the collection.

Yes, you could say it was overlooked,

simply a toe to which I gave nary a thought.

Then one thunderous day,

when lightning filled the skies

it was revealed to me

that this toe, my toe, was different.

It bore the immortal “halluces anointing”.

Marvelling at this it was then that it took on …

Her form.

Her features.

Her very character.

Divinity at the end of my foot.

And so I called It Sacred

and in calling It Sacred

I separated It from the humdrum life of toes

and I made it my Rock,

my medium to the Divine,

the reason for my existence.

Now, if you are kind to me

and treat me with the respect a bearer of the image deserves I might,

one night when the sun has set

and the frivolous people

have locked their doors,

I might

just

let you glimpse by flickering candlelight,

for a brief holy moment

my sacred toe in all its glory.

And I might even

let you worship at my feet.

Written one bleary night after hearing a poet refer to “sacred texts” in a radio interview. My thoughts mischievously went to the moment when the sacred texts weren’t called sacred. When the texts were just words and thoughts and electric impulses written on paper. And I thought of my Big Toe and the power I could give it with one Holy word.

My blog here, and my podcast @nosexplease on YouTube and giggling on audio apps like iTunes, Audible, Spotify, and others, tell the story of the abuse people have received through the church’s sex shaming that in recent years specialises in LGBTIQ+ people.

This blog and the podcast supports queer refugees in East Africa who need our help simply to survive. Many of them are killed or die from disease or hunger simply because homophobic cultures don’t merit them as human. So sad.
