RAISE A MIGHTY VOICE.

At Least Someone Gives a Damn

Finally, black mothers have another avenue for the hope of recovering their children.

The terror….

…of losing a child.

The uncertainty as you check your phone for the time and your child hasn’t made it back from school.

Friend’s house is just two blocks over…. they haven’t returned for supper.

They’re just riding bikes with their friends, but they should have been back hours ago.

In a frantic state, you want to call the police, but they won’t do anything official until after 24 hours. And worse yet, there’s even a greater chance that not much won’t be done because he’s your child…a black child.

Fewer resources will be utilized in locating your child.

Gee…isn’t the Amber alert system great? At least Susie and Becky will have a better chance of being located and returned safely to the loving arms of White America.

“BUT WHAT ABOUT MY CHILD?!? MY CHILD IS STILL OUT THERE!! ARE THEY LESS IMPORTANT OR VALUED?!?”

According to data from the 2019 United States Census, people who are Black or African American make up 13.4% of the United States population. Black children make up about 33% of all missing child cases. -Julia Kearney

Missing…gone.

Just like that.

Never to be heard from again. Parents are reduced to waiting for any news of their children all the while, knowing that very few resources will be dedicated to their recovery.

I was encouraged to hear of a new Ebony alert system California has just implemented. It focuses primarily on but is not limited to black children.

I am glad.

What took so long?

177,530 black people went missing in 2021 alone.

What took so long?

How long must black people be made to feel like second-class citizens in their own country?

What took so long?

•Shy’Kemma Pate

•Shakiema Cabbagestalk

•Andrew Thompson

•Alexis Patterson

Gone!

What took so long?

It’s the not knowing…the uncertainty…

That child may need medications.

Who’s gonna make sure they get them?

That child may have certain allergies to foods that might be fatal.

Who’s gonna make sure they aren’t given that?

That child may have a doctor’s appointment coming up next month.

Who’s gonna make sure they get there?

*bing text message.

A wild scramble for the phone.

Is it news? Have they been found? Are they alright? What’s happened?!? THEY DON’T TELL US ANYTHING!!

…. just a generic reminder from the dentist office.

Who’s gonna take him to the dentist?

Today, California is taking bold and needed action to locate missing Black children and Black women in California. I want to thank the Governor for signing the Ebony Alert into law. Our Black children and young women are disproportionately represented on the lists of missing persons. This is heartbreaking and painful for so many families and a public crisis for our entire state. The Ebony Alert can change this. -Senator Bradford of California

Many, many mothers have thanked Governor Gavin Newsom of California for having the courage to sign this legislation into law. The sad part is that it was a courageous act. That’s how unhinged people are in this country. Citizens of this county shriek and howl whenever legislation is enacted that protects black people. Words like “Woke” and “Marxist” are hurled at legislators and activists who champion and organize for this. This is how little black people are valued in this country.

We need a change.
