My Random Thought That Led To A Useless Rabbit Hole
The simulation is masterfully designed to pull us into its warped world...
Thankfully, my brain is not as active with random thoughts as it once was. But earlier today, while deeply vested in my morning routine, I realized that I had goosebumps all over except for my face.
Now, I get goosebumps all the time, so they’re nothing unnatural to me. But for some reason, this morning, I gave them my attention. And by attention, I mean, I was curious to know why I didn’t get them on my face.
Naturally, I went to the god of information (Google) to find my answer…and that I did. First, I discovered that goosebumps are caused by the contraction of the arrector pili (hair erector) muscle. When stimulated, the muscles contract to tighten the skin causing the bumps to form and our hairs to rise.
Apparently, the spacing of our hair follicles on our arms and legs, allows for the contraction to happen. However, due to the closeness of the hair follicles on our faces, there is less room for those muscles to create the skin bumps.
It sounds like a perfectly reasonable explanation, so I’ve accepted it for now because I have no more time to go down this rabbit hole. And while I was going down the hole, I discovered that some…
