The Rib Cracker
Have you ever laughed till your ribs hurt? Yea, I have many times.
Laughing has to be one of the most underrated human acts. We do this all the time but rarely pay attention to the impact it has on our mood, health, bonds, and so on. In fact, we even don’t pay a thought to how many times we do or don’t laugh in a day.
When was the last time you had a good loud laugh?
I am an active laugher. Every opportunity I get to have a loud laugh I use it to the fullest. It is one of the best feelings one can have in a day. It gets you out of your mind for a minute and brings you into a space of freedom with yourself.
Have you noticed when someone is laughing that’s when you get to see their natural vibrance?
Science has linked laughter to many health benefits but, that is not the purpose of this article. This is about how we can at times be caught up in our lives such that we miss even the smallest funny moments. We have all been through experiences where everyone in a room was laughing apart from a few who seemed to be in their minds. That one time when only one person actually got a joke and burst out with laughter while the rest stared at him like scarecrows.
As soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul. — A Jewish Proverb
I have much respect for comedians and anyone who has a good sense of humor. They not only help us see things from a funnier angle but also remind us that laughter is the cheapest form of fun. These people can play a huge role in our perspectives about life. They can easily turn a very stressful experience into a joke. As much as this may have its limits, laughing things out at times helps. I have no idea how life would be without them.
Whether it’s through watching a video on YouTube, TV, comedy shows, having conversations, etcetera, laughter will always find a way into our lives. It’s up to us to let loose a bit and pave way for more of it. Sharing moments of laughter with family and friends has to be one of the best feelings. Some of the best memories are made through this act. There’s nothing more fulfilling than sitting with your friends and remembering those occasions where you all shared a good laugh.
One of my friends send me a photo with a short story that probably gave me one of the loudest laughs this week. You might have come across this on social media.
A man bought a lie detector robot that slaps people when they lie. He then decided to bring it out at dinner with his family and try it out. He asked his son, “Where were you during school hours ?” The son replied, “At school”. The robot then slapped the son.
“Ok, I was at my friend’s house watching a DVD”, the son replies. “Which one?”, the dad asks. “Kung Fu Panda”, the son replies. Again the robot slaps him.
“OK! it was an erotic movie”, the son. “What! when I was your age I didn’t even know what that was”, the dad says in shock. Then the robot slaps him. The mom who was also in the room then laughs out saying, “He’s your son after all”. Then guess what happens next.
Did you find that funny? Well, that will depend on you. The bottom line is we all deserve to have a good laugh more frequently. It has been said that laughter is the best medicine and that’s why we need to incorporate it into our daily lives more often. Sparing time to watch a funny video may just be the one thing you need in a day to ease your mind.
