What would you say if I told you that you could study a Degree in Computer Science, Health Science or Business Administration online, tuition-free on your own weekly schedule?

Well, let me tell you it is possible with University of the People.

When I first found this University it was a dream come true. Could I really study Computer Science online tuition-free in my country?

I enrolled in the university and here I am writing my first post for my publication where I will share articles on my experience as a Computer Science student. 💻

The University is completely tuition-free, it works with Open Educational Resources and PDF books specially donated by their authors.

Final Exams cost a fee of $100 per course ($200 for Master’s Degrees) but if you can’t afford this, UoPeople offers scholarships sponsored by their partner companies and organizations.

Meet the President and Founder

Shai Reshef is the President and Founder of University of the People. He is an educational entrepreneur, with over 25 years of experience in the international education market and he founded this University because:

For hundreds of millions of people around the world higher education is no more than a dream… They are constrained by finances, the lack of institutions in their region, or they are not able to leave home to study at a university for personal reasons. (See article)

Mr. Reshef stated that:

This University opened the gate to these people to continue their studies from home and at minimal cost by using open-source technology, open course materials, e-learning methods and peer-to-peer teaching. (See article)

In 2010, he became a high-level adviser to the United Nations Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies and Development (GAID) and he has earned numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to global education.

📚 Meet the Provost

Dr. David Harris Cohen is the Provost at UoPeople (Vice President in change of Academics). From 1995 to 2003 he served as Vice President and Dean of the Faculty for Arts & Sciences at Columbia University, where he was also professor of Biological Sciences and professor of Neuroscience in Psychiatry.

He received his A.B. magna cum laude with highest honors from Harvard in 1960 and his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963.

👋 Meet the Deans!

Computer Science

Meet Dr. Alexander Tuzhilin, he is the Dean of Computer Science at University of the People. He serves as Professor of Information Systems at theNew York University (NYU) and he is Chair of the Department of Information, Operations and Management Sciences at Stern School of Business.

His research on recommender systems and personalization were supported by Morgan Stanley, Pfizer and the Centers for Advanced Technologies and Research Information Systems at NYU.

He earned a Ph. D. degree in Computer Science from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, also part of NYU.

Health Sciences

Meet Dr. Dalton Conley, he is the Dean of Health Science at University of the People.

In 2005, he became the first sociologist to win the National Science Foundation’s Alan T. Waterman Award, given annually to one young researcher in any field of science, mathematics or engineering.

Dr. Conley holds a B.A. from the University of California — Berkeley, an M.P.A. and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Columbia University, and an M.S., M.Phil, and Ph.D. in Biology (Geonomics) from NYU.

Business Administration

Meet Dr. Russel Winer, the Dean of Business Administration at University of the People.

He previously served on the faculties of Columbia University, Vanderbilt University and the University of California at Berkeley, and has been a visiting faculty member at M.I.T., Stanford University, Cranfield School of Management (U.K.), the Helsinki School of Economics, the University of Tokyo, cole Nationale des Ponts et Chauses, and Henley Management College (U.K.).

He received a B.A. in Economics from Union College and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University.
