Sign-in page of the online classroom

👋 Welcome!

Hi! In this article, I will give you a tour of the UoPeople online classroom. This is the platform where you can access the courses that you are registered for, download the material, submit your assignments, and interact with your peers.

1️⃣ Initial Screen

After you enter your username and password (these will be provided by UoPeople when you register), you will see this screen. You can access your courses, resources & documentation, and the university policies.

The panel at the bottom of the screen shows you the latest announcements that were posted by the system administrator, such as reminders for the final exams or scheduled maintenance. You also see a calendar with the due dates of your courses and important UoPeople dates, such as course registration.

2️⃣ My Courses

If you click on “My Courses”, you will see the courses that you are currently enrolled in and your progress. In this case, I’m enrolled in Programming 1 and completed 98% of the items in the course so far.

You will also see two courses that are optional, always available and always open. These are the “Online Student Writing Center” and the “Peer Assessment Office”.

Note: If you click on the “Timeline” tab next to “Courses”, located just below the title “Course Overview”, you will see a timeline with all the upcoming due dates of the courses you are enrolled in.

3️⃣ Course Page

If you click on a course, you will see the general page where you will find all the items that have been published so far in the course. You can click on them to access their content.

On the left panel, you will find the UoPeople clock (this is the clock that due dates refer to). You also find a link to report any cases of plagiarism that you may find in the classroom, and the calendar with important dates.

You will find several types of items on the course page, as you can see below:

  • The Learning Guide is where you find the content of the unit. You can click on each item in the table of contents to read its content. Usually, the learning guide contains a description of the required readings for the week (and sometimes links to recommended readings) and instructions for the assignments that you need to submit.

💡 Note: I will make an article explaining how the check marks that you see above work (the ones that are next to each item in the list). But, it’s important to know that the learning guide item is marked as completed only after you click on every item in this table of contents, including the final checklist item.

  • The Discussion Forums is where you will post your assignment and read your peers’ assignments. This is very interesting, especially when your classmates create high-quality assignments that complement your learning.
  • The Programming Assignment is where you will submit your programming assignment. Usually, you submit your file as an attachment and include your code in the text editor box.
  • The Learning Journal is where you will submit the learning journal that your professor will grade. Some courses assign learning journal that are based on self-reflection of your learning each week. Other courses design learning journals as assignments based on the course content. You must submit an entry for your journal each week.
  • The Self-Quiz item is where you will take your self quiz, which does not count towards the final grade, but it is great to check your understanding of the topic. I usually take self-quizzes on Monday.
  • The Graded Quiz item is where you will take your Graded Quiz, which does count towards your final grade.
  • In Programming 1, you also have a Programming Project that you need to submit on weeks 5, 6, and 7.

🔎 Tabs & Menus

In the classroom, you will find tabs and menus where you can access various resources:

  • Home 🏠
  • Contact us: here you will find the emails where you can contact UoPeople for specific questions or problems.
  • Resources: (see below) here you can find links to helpful resources such as the UoPeople library, orientation videos, student writing center, peer assessment office, syllabus repository, and honor’s lists.

💡 Note: the syllabus repository is a great resource to plan the courses that you wish to take. There you can find the syllabus of the courses offered at UoPeople, including the topics covered and grading.

  • Links: here you will find links to the UoPeople policies, to the University Catalog, to Support, and to the Student Portal (I will write an article with a tour of the Student Portal, where you register for courses and see your academic record 👍).
  • Faculty: resources for the UoPeople professors and staff.
  • My Courses: links to the courses that you are currently taking.

📆 Calendar

If you click on the calendar directly, you can see a more detailed breakdown of the due dates:
