Compared to the cities I traveled to in Florida with the van, Savannah, Georgia, is quite the treat. Specifically the area around Forsyth Park. I’m parked across the street from the Forsyth Park Animal Hospital now. I slept in my van in this area last night and will do the same tonight.

You can park anywhere overnight on the streets around here and it’s safe, clean, and quiet. I love this place and will return to it again in the future. Savannah is a great place and accommodating to people traveling in their vans, especially this area.

The only signs related to parking you’ll see deal with street sweeping. There are no “No Overnight” parking signs. Near the animal hospital, street sweepers come on Tuesday nights and Wednesday nights, depending on the side of the street you’re on. They are loud and you will hear them once or twice at night during these days.

It’s worth noting that I was parked on the street sweeping side on Tuesday and did not receive a ticket. When I arrived on Tuesday, I thought it was the weekend so ignored the Tuesday parking sign. In general, names of days become less meaningful when I’m traveling in the van, and more so since I’m on vacation.

That said, if you’re arriving to Savannah on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening and you only see an open space on the street sweeping side of the street, I would take it. Or you can park anywhere else in the surrounding area. I just really like the vibes near the animal hospital. There are probably many more high-vibe places right next to the park.

I’m excited to see other parts of Georgia outside of Savannah and interested in how it compares with Florida from a van life perspective. In a future post, I’ll create a simple table comparing van life in the two states.
