Why do we make our Home dirty ??

Title of this blog is a little contradictory, i mean why will you ever make your home dirty?? Its a place where you live, celebrate festivals/occasions .. you are associated with it and there is no way in the world you will ever make it dirty, instead you will keep it as clean and beautiful as possible and invest your time/money in it. By now people must be wondering, something is wrong here because nobody does that.

Let me now jump onto the other question then, what defines our home? Is it the boundary wall of house we live in? Is it my locality ? Is it my City? is it my country? Most of the people probably would say it is the boundary wall of house but why is my city or my country not my home …or is it?

I see people getting very passionate of country like their true homeland when their is comparison of our country with another one, when there is a cricket match going on, when people are living abroad [i find this strange!!]. Again same thing happens when various regions are being compared, suddenly my region/my city becomes really really important to me.

All this passion and sense of belongingness evaporates in our day to day life, suddenly the country/city we fight for so passionately doesn’t really matter any more and we don’t mind throwing garbage on roads, streets. People smoke wherever they want, spit anywhere. You ask people to pool cars, not to burn crackers, keep rivers clean but then religious debates take over, probably country comes after all these debates!! Will you ever do this in your home? or rather if you can make a place filthy then for sure you don’t have a feeling that its your home …right?? We can shout/fight/scream as loudly as we want but our actions speak loudest, if we really consider our country, our city as our home then we will surely not make it dirty.

This brings us to another question, why is it that we consider the boundary wall of our house as our home? and not the boundary of city/country? If it is about putting money and time in building the place, well we do pay taxes [even if not income tax, we pay lots of other taxes ;)] which helps to run the country. The job which you do ultimately helps in growth of your own country in one way or the other. So you put loads of time and energy in building your country. What else ? …i cannot think of anything else. Only problem i see our lack of sense of belongingness to your country and taking pride in being citizens of it.

India is a country where our Prime Minister has to lead “Swach Bharat” [Clean India] campaign because we cannot even keep our country clean … what can be more bizarre that this. At least this we can do on our own.

Only we can clean India but only when we realise its our home, we owe a lot to our Motherland and least we can do is to keep it clean. Till we start taking pride in being citizens of this nation any initiative will be futile and a waste of time and energy.

I know its easy to preach, as in a diverse nation like India these issues are quite complex to resolve but at least i do my bit and make an effort wherever i can, and even if we all do our bit, it will not be a complex issue any more :)
