Today Is All About Being An Assistant And I Love It!

July 24 — When things go wrong, bad, or sad in life I dive into work. I find it centers me. Being a virtual assistant and career admin it makes sense. My work is to help and serve others. There isn’t much time to think about myself. Taking yourself out of the equation to help someone else has a way of making you feel much better.

Of all the days on this trip I’ve never felt more like a remote worker than today. I’m sure it’s because my family recently left. Also, because today is one of those days where my calendar is full of work and life, integrated together in Berlin.

Through one of my favorite admin groups, OfficeNinjas, I was able to meet a local admin, Diana Brandl, who is very active in the executive assistant world. We shared a great conversation and I was excited to hear about the administrative landscape in Europe where she is very well connected.

As with most admins she’s got several things going on at work and constantly meeting demands. A lot of time is also spent writing, creating, networking, and speaking on the side. Her blog, The Socialista Projects, highlights not only the administrative field, but supports the idea and mission that “#WeAreInThisTogether”. I sat fascinated by the work she’s doing and how she’s promoting the administrative field on all fronts. She makes me proud to be an admin.

My attempt at the Dali exhibit failed. I was actually very excited to attend based on a recommendation and when I got there the experience was immediately ruined. All I wanted was to buy a ticket and go inside. Before I ever stepped in the exhibit the woman behind the counter was trying to sell me.

I must have said no at least a half a dozen times. When I finally went to pay I couldn’t pay with card because there was a $25 minimum. She gladly offered to sell me something. After declining I walked out and never returned. Instead I strolled around the neighborhood and enjoyed an outdoor lunch on a nice, sunny day.

Back at the apartment I was able to do more of my assistant work and catch up on things. I’m not actually behind on anything. However, when I don’t have work scheduled weeks in advance I feel behind. It’s like being right on time, to me I feel late unless I’m early.

Then I received my first ever specific Roamer question as a comment. It felt great! The point of the blog when I first started was to let people know how it is to travel with We Roam. Since we’re the first group to go through I want to be able to share it with others who are trying to make the decision. He appreciated my response and it made me feel great to do my part.

After such a slow, sad day yesterday I needed this today. I needed to feel like myself again and being in full assistant mode did the trick!

My end of day gratitude:

  1. Being able to meet an amazing, local admin.
  2. The ability to work remotely.
  3. Helping others.
