How to tackle the penalties implemented by the Motor Vehicle Act, 2019
So, the Motor Vehicle Act that came into effect from Sept 1, 2019 comes with a lot of Rules and Fines indeed. The government is all set to crack the whip on some of the most common traffic violations across the country.
As the bill proposes hefty penalties for anyone who drives without insurance or Driving License, there are certain measures that will help you avoid such lofty fines.
- Remember DRIP. Now, DRIP stands for Driving Licence, Registration Certificate or simply RC, Insurance, Pollution Certificate. Easy to remember, right?
So next time you are headed out, remember to take DRIP with you. It’s an easy and effective way to remember the documents you’ll need when you are hitting the road.
2. The second measure is to install an app on your phone, so you’ll have digital storage of all your vehicle-related documents. This way, you are covered wherever you may be.
Two such apps we would suggest are: (i) DigiLocker and (ii) mParivahan
(i) DigiLocker lets you drive hassle-free. Having your documents digitally stored, you don’t need to carry Original Driving License or Vehicle RC anymore!
How does DigiLocker work?
1. Sign up with your mobile number
2. Sync with your Aadhaar
3. Get documents from Issuers
4. Share documents with Requesters
How can you get a DigiLocker account?
Signing up for DigiLocker is easy. All you need is your mobile number, to be authenticated by sending an OTP (one-time password) followed by selecting a username & password. This will create your DigiLocker account.
After your DigiLocker account is successfully created, you can voluntarily provide your Aadhaar number (issued by UIDAI) to avail additional services.
You can simply download the User Manual, for your reference.
(ii)mParivahan: This app conveniently lets you access various information, services and utilities related to the Transport Sector. What’s more, you can also verify DL details and create virtual DL and RC in this app.
This government app also provides complete information about your car, like -
- Owner’s Name
- Registration date
- Registering Authority
- Make Model
- Fuel Type
- Vehicle Age
- Vehicle class
- Insurance Validity
- Fitness Validity
Other Highlights: Virtual RC/DL, Encrypted QR Code, Information Services, DL/RC search, Road Offence Reporting, Road Accident Reporting, Transport Notification to the citizen, RTO/Traffic Office Locations.
