Whether it is a juice cleanse to detox your body, the membership you decided to pay to get rid of those extra kilos, or that meditation app you just bought with the aim of getting more healthy-concious… We know that the wellness industry is reaching its highest point.

So, why are we so drawn to this booming industry?

Self-care as a priority

Millennials, more than any previous generation prioritize holistic well-being. They are driven by a desire to achieve a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle, something that lately seems impossible to achieve, right? We are dealing with a lot: career uncertainties, student loans, the constant pressure to succeed. As time goes by, we are expected to achieve more and the pressure comes as something inevitable. The wellness industry offers us an escape from this reality, it comes as the perfect way to prioritize our health and practice self-care. Whether is indulging in a spa day, going for a run, or treating ourselves to a fancy face mask, we crave these moments of relaxation.

The wellness industry came to the equation the moment we realized it wasn’t enough to just take care of our bodies. All the worries present in our daily lives are taking a toll on our mental health, that’s why we have other options available such as meditation apps, yoga classes, and more.

Social Media And Influencers have a huge impact on our decisions

Let’s face it: Social media has taken over our lives. We’re constantly scrolling through Instagram or TikTok and guess what? Influencers are literally everywhere. They are showing off their yoga poses, sharing their healthy recipes and promoting the latest wellness trends.

It’s difficult to not fall into the trap and not compare ourselves with these famous influencers, we want to be like them.

We’re highly influenced by what we see online and now more than ever we are going for alternative lifestyles and choices to better our well-being. Studies have shown the correlation between our consumption choices and influencers’s behaviour online.

If our favourite influencer/artist introduces a new healthy habit or product to their daily routine, it is more likely we follow their path.

We don’t want to be like everyone else

Unlike previous generations, millennials are questioning literally everything they do: from personal aspirations, to work environments and clothing styles. They want to be unique and make sure every decision comes from an honest place.

We are skeptical of traditional advertising and crave genuine connections. The wellness industry taps into that desire by focusing on natural and organic products, sustainable practices, and transparent branding. We’re drawn to companies that share our values and genuinely care about our well-being. From eco-friendly skincare brands to ethical fitness studios, the industry offers us a chance to align our consumer choices with our beliefs.

Amidst the chaos, the balance.

We are bombarded 24/7 with information. We are the generation that grew up in a hyper-connected world. The wellness industry provides a way to find balance in our chaotic lives. It offers us tools and practices to manage stress, improve our mental health, and create a sense of harmony. Whether it’s practising mindfulness or attending yoga retreats, we’re actively seeking ways to slow down and take care of ourselves.

It was about time millennials realised there is another way to cope with uncertainties and conflicts, now more than ever it is essential to take care of our mental health and general well-being. We have fallen in love with the wellness industry because it aligns with our desire for authenticity, and offers a path to balance in our fast-paced lives.

Social media plays a big role too, with influencers shaping our perceptions and influencing our choices.

So, next time you see a millennial sipping on a green smoothie or striking a yoga pose, remember we’re just trying to find our zen in this crazy world. Namaste!
