Our Goal

The goal of #MyBlackIsGold is to provide an alternative monetary giving option for DePauw alumni (students, and others, as well) for directly supporting DePauw’s AAAS organization/house.

Given recent the racist incidents and historical negligence of appropriate reactions to student demands for safety, a group of concerned DePauw alumni have created an alternative option to “DePauw Day” that will DIRECTLY support the Association of African American Students (AAAS) at DePauw.

This effort is NOT associated with the University, however, we believe that directly supporting Black students will allow them to continue their incredible work to make DePauw a more inclusive, diverse, and safe campus community.

Note: All funds raised will go directly to AAAS.

Why You Should Donate

We understand the university has taken some measures to address these events, but we also understand that these incidents are nothing new to the history of DePauw, and no change or results seem to have come from the administration. Therefore, we believe it is essential that we support the current students ourselves to help AAAS and the current student leaders advocate for themselves efficiently and without university restrictions. The main goals of this campaign are to:

  1. Provide an alternative monetary giving option for DePauw Alumni who do not wish to donate directly to the university at this time.
  2. Create an endowment for the Association of African American Students (AAAS) at DePauw to support them in their future programing and community organizing efforts.
  3. Show solidarity to current students to let them know that we, both Alumni and Friends, are listening.

To hear more about the thoughts and feelings of both alumni, friends, and current students, please visit Alumni & Friends Stories.

Message for White Alumni

As graduates of DePauw university, we are responsible for speaking up and supporting current students who are experiencing many of the same injustices we saw and experienced while attending DePauw. As white alumni, in particular, it is important to financially support student-led efforts to break down the institutionalized racism that we all know contributes to these recent hate crimes and unsafe environments for students. True allyship requires continuous evaluation of white privilege; donating to AAAS is one of the many ways to put Old Gold coins to a trustworthy place!
