I was ignorant of the hate happening at DePauw while I was there and since. I knew there were problems — a collection of communities, a culture of judgment — but I assumed that was just the college reality. I recognize my privilege. I am ashamed of how naive I have been and am grateful that the conversation is finally happening. We go to liberal arts schools because we want open and thoughtful conversation, fostered idealism, and a safe place to learn whatever we want. I am here to learn more and do what I can to protect people who had and are having a different experience from what I had.
