With the rapidly growing popularity of data-driven and intelligent products and services, also the dark side of data collection, especially personal data, has become evident. Targeted adverts become more and more intrusive, and masses of personal data are even used to influence voting behaviour.

Using personal data without consent or even against the person’s wishes is often called unethical. As a solution, terms such as Data Ethics and AI Ethics have surfaced recently, along with requests for more transparency, accountability and fairness in algorithmic systems. But what does ethics actually mean in this context, and what kind of practical guidance could it offer for personal data processing?

The Ethical Processing of MyData track in the MyData 2017 conference will explore both theoretical and practical aspects of ethics related to MyData. The track program combines philosophical expertise with a number of positive and negative examples of ethical and transparent handling and use of personal data.

The track consists of the following sessions:

The track aims to create a better foundation for discussion of ethical issues rising from processing of personal data. It will lead to a clear and focused research and policy agenda along with recommended features and practical solutions for MyData products and services.

Join the track sessions to hear more and contribute!

On behalf of the whole Ethics track team,
