The Mydex Community Platform is a great way for people to come together to learn from one another, share information and ask questions about the Mydex Platform, Personal Data Stores (PDS) and the range of Mydex CIC services. The Community Platform is a gateway to involvement with a wide community of people actively engaged in personal control over personal data.

It allows all stakeholders — Mydex members (the individuals we serve), organisations connected to the Mydex Platform and Apps and service developers — to engage with each other in the Mydex community. Any stakeholder can ask and answer questions, vote for the best answers and pool their collective knowledge to provide a rich support network for all. This brings our social purpose to life, with individuals interacting with individuals acting for themselves and organisations to get the most out of the potential for efficient personal data and identity management.

Anyone can either register for or log in with their MydexID, raise questions, add any additional information and then add ‘tags’. These tags ‘mark’ a question as belonging to one or more topics, allowing for easy navigation of content. It also means that once the question is answered, others looking for the same information will easily be able to find what they need without having to post their own question.

Future plans for the Community Platform

In the future, we plan for organisations that have connected to the Mydex Platform (we call these ‘Connections’), which may have large communities themselves, to be able to have their own sub-section of the Community Platform, where questions specific to that Connection can be raised and solved across the whole community. A section like this might have representatives of that Connection as its moderator, creating an autonomous forum for knowledge supported by those with the best experience and information in that area.

Our vision for the Community Platform is an environment that enables a whole community to assist one another with knowledge and guidance, giving less confident members of the community a sense of support when using their MydexID, their PDS and the range of utilities provided. This allows knowledgeable members to greatly increase the volume and speed of response to questions — whether general or specific — about the Mydex Platform and Connections.

We have started the Platform off with three specific communities, namely:

  • Mydex members — those individuals actively using a PDS, their MydexID and utilities;
  • Connections — organisations that are experimenting with and connecting to the Mydex Platform enabling them to discuss their experiences and use of our documentation and also to share their own customer journeys and approach to activation of the service;
  • Developers — those people developing connections to the Platform either as part of connecting an organisation’s existing services or creating new apps and services. The focus tends to be on technical questions and works in conjunction with our Developer Documentation site.

We have exciting plans for future features of the Community Platform including:

  • enhanced search options;
  • integration with a member’s PDS for profile and preference management and streaming members’ interactions with the Platform to their PDS;
  • extending notifications options and settings;
  • adding a Kudos and ranking system where members can earn points and status from their contribution;
  • social integration to allow members to promote the site, questions, answers and comments they find that they want to share; and
  • Mydex and Community Management functions along with analytics and visualisations about community activity.

Head over to the Mydex Community Platform to check it out. It’s designed to work with desktop, mobile and tablet devices, so you can get the answers you need, wherever you are. It’s built entirely from open source components and our plans are to make the Community Platform available for others wishing to develop Mydex-enabled communities for their own organisations.
