Future of Fantasy Sports一 Part 4

This article is fourth part of the series “Future of Fantasy Sports” where immersive technology like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), 360 view, hologram effect would be talked about and how fantasy sports industry can make most out of it to make their user’s experience all the more entertaining and worthwhile than it already is. So make a hot cup of coffee, and have fun reading!

2017 had been a particular year for immersive technology. It was drastically new for most people. Absolutely any kind of (sensible or not) amalgamation of just about any idea would intrigue people. It appeared to be so unreal to be true giving an impression that it is light years ahead. The technology promises an immersive nature in which the user of the tech would lost himself/herself into the projections projected by the tech. Be it snapchat filters, the game of Pokemon Go, or other social media websites aping snapchat, or 360 degree view photographs, or the cool Daydream product by Google. More than any population on this planet, gamers were attracted the most.

Keeping that in mind, the fantasy sports industry was also not left behind. Many new ideas were brainstormed by the business developers generating some crazy worthwhile ideas which continue to live. Such ideas would sound very tempting and promising to any regular fantasy sports fan, especially young blood.

What if someone said you can catch your favorite league’s top class players just the way you caught Pokemons on Pokemon Go? What if you open your phone and get a notification saying: “Lionel Messi Caught” without even paying extravagant amount! Sounds like a dream? Well, yes, it can be augmented. What if someone tells you that you can view a particular shot of your favourite basketball game from whichever angle you want from 0 to 360! You bet it’d be super interesting to view the match at 180 degrees. What if someone tells you that you can practically see 3D version of live match at the comfort of your living room? Well, with hologram technology that’s totally possible.

Even though this still might sound very much into posterity to a lot of people, but it is happening. It may not be common but it’s about to get common very soon. The technology in the background is already very strong, thanks to newer tech like cloud and blockchain yet the forefront which deals with the user on a first hand basis didn’t undergo too many drastic changes. The idea of immersive technology will totally transform the way a regular sports fan would approach sports.

Chances are that people who are not involved in sports may get involved all because of a more appealing way of engagement with the activity. Such ideas not only retain users but also help in expanding the user base because they present a demonstrable example of AHA! Moment in real time. It is not just about pretty looking website and interfaces but it’s about connecting with the user on a physiological level. Even though it is virtual, some part of it still feels real.

The immersive technology has the power to allure people and to make the fantasy routine more tempting. Transformation brought about by technology can be underscored with the motivation new companies are working today. Each and every company relies on technology to sell their product. Especially in the fantasy sports industry, given the dynamic nature of the industry such a technology can prove to be a dark horse of the future.
