We know that choosing World Cup Fantasy team can be a very daunting task. We are here to help you!

The World Cup is inching closer and we can literally feel the heat among fantasy football aficionados. We know what is it like to constantly think how can I create the most promising lineup. Things can get all the more rough when you’re on a budget. It can get really annoying to pick out the best players. The key is to strike a balance that will land you with maximum points at the end of it.

With FIFA about to start within very few days, MyDFS is here to help you with the lineup! The secret to a good team is to have great defenders. When considering which defenders to choose for your fantasy football team you will have to take a number of key factors into consideration, such as the following:

  • Clean sheets
  • Discipline
  • Assists
  • Goal threat
  • Bloсks
  • Interceptions
  • Tackles
  • Clearances

Ideally you should aim to pick goal-scoring defenders, or full-backs who like to get involved in attacks. At all times you must keep in mind the disciplinary history of those you may select because a player getting sent off will cost you points. Obviously the more games your chosen players play, the more points you earn. So try to pick out players who have a good chance of reaching until later stages of the tournament.

Following is the list we created to help you with the selection:

1) Joshua Kimmich (Germany)

Joshua Kimmich is one of the best players in Bavaria and Germany. This year he showcased a stellar performance in Bundesliga, where he scored 1 goal and finished with 11 assists. In the Champions League, Kimmich came on so strong against Real Madrid. He scored in both matches. In the national squad Kimmich was the main player of the Confederation Cup. He played all 5 matches without substitutions. In the qualifying round before FIFA World Cup 2018, he played all 10 matches, scored 2 goals and gave 10 assists. If you want to win, then Kimmich should be in your team. Germany is a favorite to win the whole tournament and squad will definitely reach the semifinals, so Kimmich will stay in your team for a long time.

2) Diego Godin (Uruguay)

Godin is still one of the best central defenders in the world. During the qualification round, Uruguay’s captain played more than anyone else from his team and scored 3 goals. In the Diego Simeone’s team, this is the most important team player. In the Spanish La Liga, he has won 31 tackles this season with a success rate of 36%. He has made 59 interceptions, 130 clearances and 20 blocks.

3) Samuel Umtiti (France)

In the FIFA World Cup qualification, Umtiti played only 5 matches. But as Loran Koscielny got injured, a couple of central defenders will be filled by Umtiti and Varane. This year Umtiti has proved that he is able to play at a high level for Barcelona. He took part in 25 La Liga matches where he has won tackles with 51% success rate. He has made 37 interceptions, 61 clearances and 15 blocks.

4) Marcelo (Brazil)

Marcelo is the main left-back player of the Brazilian national team and in Real Madrid too. He has been on the list of the best players of the world for many years, possibly the best left-back right now. Marcelo is not strong in the defensive game, but his activity in the attack levels all his mistakes in defense. This year in La Liga, Marcelo scored 2 goals and gave 6 assists.

5) Nicolas Otamendi (Argentina)

Otamendi was criticized for a long time, but this year, under the leadership of Pep Guardiola, he showed his best football in his career becoming one of the leading players in Man City. Otamendi, in the English Premier League, has won 47 tackles this season with a success rate of 40%. He has made 52 interceptions, 139 clearances and 12 blocks. In qualifying round for the World Cup, Otamendi has played 15 matches. In Argentina squad there are some problems with defenders and Otamendi should become the leader of defense to make his star team finally win the World Cup.

6) Kyle Walker (England)

Kyle is also a Man City’s player who showcased good performance this year. In the English Premier League, he has won 35 tackles this season with a success rate of 47%. He has made 29 interceptions, 83 clearances, 2 blocks and gave 6 assists. In the qualification round, he has played 9 matches, more than anyone else in the national team and gave 2 assists. Walker will be the main right-back of the England team and can be the main right-back in your team.

7) Benjamin Mendi (France)

Mendy was injured the whole year but managed to take part in seven Premier League games and even gave an assist. Mendy also played two qualifying matches and gave an assist. Despite the fact that Mendy was injured for a long time, he has already played in the last friendly match of the French national team and for sure will be the main defender of his squad at the tournament.

8) Gerard Pique (Spain)

Piqué has been playing in Barcelona for many years and is one of her central defenders. Piqué, in the Spanish La Liga, has won 17 tackles this season with a success rate of 34%. He has made 24 interceptions, 105 clearances, 23 blocks and scored 2 goals. In the Spanish national team Piqué will play in pair with Ramos, the team does not lose more than 15 matches and concedes a few goals. Piquet looks preferable to Ramos, because Ramos makes too much mistakes this year.

9) Raphael Varane (France)

Raphael Varane is the main central defender of Real Madrid. This year Real Madrid conceded unusually more, but this is not the direct fault of Varane. In the Champions League, Varane has won eight tackles this season with a success rate of 42%. He has made 9 interceptions, 41 clearances and 6 blocks. For the national squad Varane played 7 matches in the qualification round and will for sure be the main player of France in this tournament.

10) Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal)

Kalidou is the only one in the list who plays the team, which is likely to leave the tournament quickly. However, his impressive game for Napoli this season attracted the attention of all the top clubs in Europe, perhaps after the World Cup we will see Kalidou in a new team. Koulibaly, in the Italian Serie A, has won 40 tackles this season with a success rate of 48%. He has made 37 interceptions, 113 clearances and 14 blocks. Perhaps Senegal will surprise us, so do not underestimate the squad, especially with Kalidou Koulibaly.

With Kalidou we sum up our list. FIFA is only a week away; if you haven’t decided your dream team yet, what are you waiting for!
