Host Your Own Site with MEW: Introducing IPFS Support for .ETH and .CRYPTO Domains
By now, you have probably heard about decentralized domains, and perhaps even registered a domain name in MEW with Ethereum Name Service (ENS) or Unstoppable Domains. Hopefully, you’ve gotten some good use out of it, allowing your friends and colleagues to send you transactions with ease. Bonus points if you got them to register domain names as well, making the entire crypto ecosystem friendlier and more secure!
But ownership of a decentralized domain is about so much more than a convenient, foolproof way of sending funds on the blockchain. It’s about staking your claim in Web3 and establishing full ownership not just of your funds, but of your content.
Decentralized domains combined with distributed hosting services like IPFS mean uncensorable and un-take-down-able web pages. Now, you can use MEW to put your domain name to a truly exciting use — put up a Web3 website, entirely and permanently controlled by you alone.
To get started, you will need a decentralized domain, plus either an IPFS hash or a zip file for your website content. Don’t have a domain yet? Follow our Help Center guides to get a .eth ENS or a .crypto UD domain. Also, don’t worry if you don’t know what an IPFS hash is or how to get one. If you can download your website as a zip file, MEW will take care of the rest for you.
By the way, keep in mind that if you own both ‘pinkunicorns.com’ and ‘pinkunicorns.crypto’, you can choose to upload different content to the two websites, as they are on different registries and on different hosting services. If you do decide to keep the content the same, any updates would need to be done separately, for the same reason.
After you access your wallet and navigate to our Dapps page, select either Unstoppable Domains or ENS, depending on which registry you are using. Click through to managing the domain. You will find a window titled ‘IPFS hash’, with the option of pasting in the hash directly or clicking on ‘Upload your website’ and selecting your zip file.

Once you confirm the transaction and your file is processed, your website content will become available on the blockchain. For more details on using the MEW domain managers for IPFS upload, see our Help Center.
You can view .eth websites in the Chrome browser after installing Unstoppable Domains or MetaMask extensions, or in any browser by adding ‘.link’ (i.e., myetherwallet.eth.link).
To view .crypto websites, use the Unstoppable Domains extension in Chrome, the Unstoppable Domains browser, or the Opera browser.
Hoping to see you around Web3,
