In the past year, we’ve gotten a lot of questions about MEW’s presence on Telegram: whether we have an official group, whether the many MEW groups that are on Telegram are fake, and what we are doing about the fake support groups that are there.

Although Telegram groups have become a popular way of staying in touch with the community for a lot of crypto projects, Telegram is also frequently used by scammers and phishers to get people’s wallet information and steal their funds. The volume of this phishing activity is comparable to, or even greater than other social media and messaging platforms, and it is difficult to address fake Telegram groups. If we, as MEW support, join the groups and try to alert other members, we are simply blocked by the admins and our messages are deleted. If one fake group is taken down, very quickly other groups appear.

For these reasons, in the past we had decided against having any presence on Telegram. However, given the platform’s popularity and convenience, we came to hope that an official MEW channel, providing accurate information and links to official support sources, can help steer Telegram users away from the fake MEW groups.

Today we are launching the MEW | MyEtherWallet Telegram channel which will provide the latest MEW and Ethereum news, announcements of new integrations and partnerships, as well as user guides and educational content. In addition, we are offering an exclusive MEW Telegram sticker pack, featuring Peggy, the cute astronaut from our new mobile app MEW wallet! (Peggy is named in honor of Margaret Hamilton, the computer scientist who developed on-board flight software for NASA’s Apollo program.)

Even if you are following MEW elsewhere (on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, or Vkontakte), please consider joining the Telegram channel as well — not only for exclusive content, but also to increase the channel following compared to fake MEW Telegram groups. If a new user searches Telegram and finds our official channel first, it will help keep beginners safe from scammers.

User support will not be offered through our Telegram channel. If you have questions about using MEW or any specific concerns, help can always be found at support@myetherwallet.com. Also, we continue to encourage users to check our site https://www.myetherwallet.com for links to our other official social media channels. Generally, this is a good approach when dealing with online services — bookmark official web pages and verify any communications you receive against the links you see on the site.

If you haven’t done so, please bookmark the MEW website now and make sure any social media channels and groups you are following are really MEW. As always, remember that MEW will never contact you first and will never ask for your wallet access information.

Stay safe out there!
