Dear Son,

My darling boy, you are a year old now. I clearly remember the time I saw you first, you were exploring the world by tingling your hands and feet in the air. Then, I heard you cry for the first time, it was the most intense sound my ears had ever heard. There were tears rolling down your mother’s eyes and for me I was just so overwhelmed, that there are actually no words to describe my feeling.

It’s true son, that time flies fast when you are having fun. I mean, I don’t know where on earth did the entire year go? Son, those sonography sessions during your mother’s pregnancy time were good, but my heart literally skipped a beat when I held you for the first time in my arms. The moment a nurse from the NICU said — “sir, here’s your son” — my smile was brighter and my heart was lighter. I clearly remember every detail of that day — your tiny delicate hands and feet, feeble but beautiful body, and fair and lilac color. Always, I just kept waiting for you to open your puffy eyes and stare at me, to say aloud with sign language, hey dad, I’m here with you.

You know, I really thank God every day for giving you to us. Your mother keeps saying that it has been a tough year but son, believe…
