“It will come about at that time that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are stagnant in spirit, who say in their hearts, ‘The Lord will not do good or evil!’” Zephaniah 1:12

According to the lexicon at biblehub.com, the Hebrew meaning for the word stagnant in this verse is “to thicken, condense, congeal.” Picture a liquid solidifying; coagulating into separate blobs.

It’s easier than we think to allow our spirits to harden to God’s truth; to separate our beliefs from our daily lives. “Christians” on Sundays or during our quiet times, but living the rest of our week the same way as the rest of the world around us.

Father, give us grace to keep You at the forefront of our minds every hour of every day. Give us the strength to follow Your Holy Spirit’s prompting, rather than our own ever-changing emotions.
