Eliza Butler — Our Wellness Warrior
Eliza is a certified wellness coach who brings easy, sustainable self-care practices to our community. After hitting rock bottom in university, she turned her life around through holistic healing. The success she saw when she overcame her own personal struggles fuels her to help others struggling from anxiety and negative self-talk.
“It all boils down to self-compassion. Health and wellness is about the relationship I have with myself. It’s how I interact with myself on a day to day basis that allows me to show up for others. When I’m in that space, my relationships with others are deeper, I listen better, I’m more energized, I appreciate things more…I’m an all around better human!”
Ever since she was a kid, Eliza was a super competitive hockey player. While athleticism and being active was more than easy for her, Eliza struggled with the unhealthy habits that came along with playing intense sports. She ate whatever she wanted, pushed her body to its limits at all times, and believed that “tough love” was the only way she could succeed at anything.
Everything came to a halt when her hockey career ended in second year university. Eliza lost her identity. She struggled through anxiety and depression. Her wake up call came only after a few years of too much partying, constant weight fluctuations and different types of medications.
When she hit rock bottom, she realized that she had to make a change fast. Always interested in the mind-body connection, she decided to heal herself by embodying these practices. Bit by bit, Eliza made strides towards healthy habits…eventually turning it into a lasting lifestyle.
Nowadays, she makes sure to set aside time every day for self-care practices. Her goal this year is to focus on listening to her body and giving it what it needs on a daily basis. To juggle her work schedule and what she feels that her body needs, she chooses not to plan for how the day looks. Instead, she chooses flexibility.
Eliza’s Quick Tip
In the morning, she sets aside 5 to 30 minutes for meditation and journaling to bring clarity to her day. She fuels her body with a combination of nourishing foods and adds in a workout or yoga class when she is not busy. At night, she unplugs at 8:30PM to spend quality time with her loved ones.
“When I’m feeling unmotivated to make healthy choices, I acknowledge my resistance to the healthy choice, and I say that it’s ok. I allow myself the space to tap into the why and give myself the gift of self-compassion.”
