AR and VR — What’s the Difference? Basically, Augmented reality (AR) adds digital elements to a live view often by using the camera on a smartphone. Examples of augmented reality experiences include Snapchat lenses and the game Pokemon Go. Conversely, Virtual reality (VR) implies a complete immersion experience that shuts out the physical world. Using VR devices users can be transported into a number of real-world and imagined environments such as the middle of a squawking penguin colony or even the back of a dragon.

Obviously, most know that VR and AR is popular in the gaming community. But there are applications of this technology that could be used to train and even save lives in the future:

Healthcare

Virtual reality change healthcare drastically for both surgical training and doctors in several ways. Using VR solutions for healthcare industries improve skills training, conduct surgery simulation and actual robotic surgery. VR will help healthcare surgical training to learn new skills without harming anybody within the safe virtual environment. Recent studies have shown that VR as a distraction can be used as an effective painkiller when compared to traditional medicines.

We can consider AR as a natural consequence of technological developments and the availability of data that has flooded doctors recently. AR can help doctors access the latest and most relevant information about their patients. Moreover, patients can also use AR for self-education and improving the quality of treatment they receive.

Travelling

The tourism industry is all about selling the experience of travel. Virtual reality will quite simply be able to take you to places you have never gone before. By using virtual reality, you will be able to see new places as if you were visiting them. Not only will this be exciting for the entertainment industry, but it will also be influential in the classroom.

Augmented reality can give people a chance to preview the experience they are about to book. Offer navigational tools that help people get around their chosen destination. This can be an added resource that helps you develop a reputation as a local guide rather than just a tour company.

Real Estate

VR technology helps solve problems, allowing millions of people to virtually visit properties without leaving their homes. Simply put on a VR headset and you can experience immersive, three-dimensional walkthroughs of properties. In a matter of minutes, potential buyers or renters can virtually visit dozens of locations and decide which are worth visiting in person.

Augmented Reality is great to create a “real look and feel” model that will help to demonstrate the building to the prospects being far from the place or if the building is not finished.

Education

VR and AR technologies are widely used in education industry as it offers lots of benefits. Augmented Reality displays content in the form of 3D videos, images, graphics that makes easier for the students to learn and understand things they are reading. Virtual reality will allow students to attend classes no matter where they are located. This means that students will be able to practice teamwork, to learn from one another.

Marketing

VR and AR can also be used to build brand trust. Just like a prospective buyer can test out a car or look through a house without leaving their own home, businesses can allow consumers to test out their products before making a final purchase. VR escape rooms showcasing brands or products, simulated 3D walk through design to showcase a hotel or facilities, VR mirror or screens in shopping malls or clothing stores, customers could now try different colours, styles and shapes by simple gestures or swipes.
