Q: Hi Jason, happy to have you here! Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Playible!
A: Hi Kate, happy to be here and to kickstart this awesome partnership. I’m the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) at Playible. I’ve spent the better part of my adult years working in the fantasy sports and web3 spaces, working for well-known platforms and companies like Play USA, FantasyGuru, and Lucky Trader. Now, I’m building out the next generation of NFT-enabled fantasy sports on NEAR Protocol with our incredible team at Playible.
Q: Awesome! Now, how would you describe what Playible does in 10 words?
A: Playible is fantasy sports meets NFT and blockchain technologies.
Q: And now — in 50 words?
A: Playible is an NFT fantasy sports platform focused on bridging the gap between web3 technologies and traditional gaming markets to offer free-to-enter fantasy sports contests with real cryptocurrency prizes. We’re building the next generation of competitive, peer-to-peer gaming based on real-world outcomes, and we’re doing it on NEAR Protocol.
Q: OK, now that we have a fuller understanding of Playible, can you share your plans for the future?
A: Sure thing! We’re launching our football (American) product on August 23. You’ll be able to mint Starter Packs directly from our website at playible.io. Each Starter Pack contains enough Athlete NFTs to fill out a fantasy sports team and enter into our weekly contests for stablecoin-based prizes.
On August 30, our pack opening contract will go live, and on September 6, prior to the first week of the NFL season, our game contracts will go live. That’s when the real fun starts. But prior to our contests, you’ll be able to buy, sell, and trade Athlete NFTs on secondary marketplaces like Paras and store them on MyNearWallet, of course!

Q: Playible is play-to-earn (P2E), NFTs, and sports — all in one. How do you plan to revolutionize all of these industries?
A: All of these industries can benefit from each other. Fantasy sports, despite being such a young industry, is ready for change. There is seemingly no edge left, and it’s not as fun for non-professional players.
We’ve already seen some people migrating to props-based platforms like PrizePicks and Underdog Fantasy. But by leveraging NFT and blockchain technologies, we can revitalize the fantasy sports industry.
We can make it fun to play fantasy sports. And even when games aren’t taking place, like in the offseason or from Tuesday to Thursday, there will be a secondary marketplace open 24/7 to make adjustments to your teams and lineups.
We’re going to take all the best aspects of web3 and fantasy sports, blend them up, and create a truly unique and engaging experience for our users. This isn’t another fantasy sports platform. And it isn’t another DeFi platform. It’s a new take on a beloved game that benefits both the rejuvenation of competitive, peer-to-peer gaming and the mass adoption of crypto and NFTs.
Q: Now that MyNearWallet is integrated into Playible — what features do you want to see for your user’s perfect wallets (which we can work on)?
A: We want to make the process of buying a Starter Pack and trading Athlete NFTs as seamless as possible.
Successful blockchain technologies should operate in the background. We want our users to be able to use a credit card to purchase packs and NFTs, collect their contest prize pool winnings without worrying about fees, and directly transfer those winnings back into their bank accounts, if that’s what they want to do. MyNearWallet helps us eventually reach those goals.
