When a supernova causes a cataclysmic rupture in the Milky Way, a new star and galaxy are born. Now Gargantua sits at the epicenter of Xandar.

Diverse realms orbit Gargantua, each one inhabited by agile and enchanted creatures that have evolved and adapted to each realm’s unique environment.

Thus the scene is set for this ambitious, AAA play-to-earn (P2E) adventure and arena-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

Choose an avatar and step into the arena

Gamers get to choose their avatar and venture into one or more of these enchanted realms to battle for survival and, of course, grab stacks of in-game loot. Armed with powerful assets, players fight to the death in teams, always playing to win.

Avatars range from common to legendary, some appearing as hybrid bears or reindeer. Others as mythical creatures, superheroes, or alien lifeforms. As you have probably guessed, a great deal of imagination, creativity, and hardcore programming hours have gone into making Xandar a Web3 game that sits comfortably shoulder-to-shoulder with the best console and Web2 gaming have to offer.

Originally built on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC), the team at Xandar has been on the hunt for a Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution to ramp up its NFT minting capabilities and provide its growing community of players with, not just a great gaming experience, but the opportunity to have — following pun fully intended — real skin in the game.

On the hunt for the best NFT minting solution

“We were looking for an Ethereum L2 that could deliver real scale,” says Xandar’s CEO, Mohammed Abdullah Tahir, Xandar’s founder. “When we looked at the many different options available, we realized that Myria provides a few things that make it very attractive to a project like Xandar.

He adds, “In a nutshell, Myria has had the foresight to partner with Starkware and through its implementation of StarkEx can give us the things we need as a Web3 gaming company. These include high transaction speeds, the ability to infinitely scale, and zero gas fees.”

Overcoming Layer 1 obstacles

Here, Mohammed references the problems that many Web3 projects needing to mint NFT collections have faced in the past. Developers want to build on Ethereum because it was the first Layer 1 blockchain and, by dint of its wide adoption, remains the most secure option for dApp builders. But it has been hampered by its own success, suffering from overuse and congestion and remaining unusable by many because of this.

By using ZK-Rollups, which bundle transactions off-chain before submitting them to Ethereum, Myria’s L2 has successfully resolved challenges for Xandar and other games.

Octa Attributes

A unique aspect of Xandar’s gameplay is its Octa-attributes, which also serve as the game’s unique selling proposition. They include:

  • Play-to-Earn
  • Multiplayer
  • Adventure and arena-based
  • Inter-realm operability
  • NFT collections
  • Role-playing
  • Meta-Multiverse reality
  • Tournament mode

You can find more details about Xandar’s Octa-attributes on the official website. But what inspired these features?

The allure of Web3

A software engineer by profession, Mohammed was always passionate about gaming. “I played PUBG for the better part of the day and my parents used to scold me all the time but it was worth it, but I think they now realize it was worth it.”

He adds, “We wanted to create a blockchain game that’s able to challenge the status quo of Web2 titles. It’s no secret that some of the most popular games nowadays include a player vs player (PvP) element.”

Xandar definitely has that all-important PvP element, but it has much more besides, from exotic and breathtaking realm scenery to the vibrant characters and all-encompassing lore gamers — even those who just like to explore and roleplay — will love.

Mohammed says the company aims to launch a fully playable beta version in Q4 2022, followed by an official release in 2023, and has chosen Myria upon which to build and deploy its NFTs. With zero gas fees and zero cost for minting on Myria’s blockchain, Xandar’s ecosystem is ready for mass adoption.
